unable to display preview pane in list view in DEVONthink 4 when I select a group. View →as List only affects the item list, not the preview pane

You cannot change the display of a selected group’s contents in the view/edit pane. It will only show document icons or thumbnails. Also, it will only show documents, not subgroups.

thank you. What on earth is the use of icon/thumbnail view ? Micro images are useless and item names truncated and illegible. I am not being critical or sarcastic. I just don’t understand.
It is just a convenience view to quickly show the contents in a group. If you are using thumbnails, it could be of more use. It can also be disabled via the General > Interface > Preview group content setting.
Extremely useful to me, when I am dragging items to different groups from the inbox (or other places) to their final destinations. For example, bank statements all look very similar, with a certain color, etc. It is MUCH faster than viewing by list, when there are all sorts of files. Also, easy to see what are screenshots from my iPhone, pngs, etc.

I found myself regularly looking for “sub”-groups in the preview pane and second the request to show/interact with subgroups in the preview pane. Personally I would also love to see an option, to choose a list of records instead of thumbnails.
Have you tried using the column view?
@troejgaard This doesn’t change the preview pane.
I think the suggestion was so you could see the subgroups and documents while selecting a parent group, not meaning it would change the view/edit pane.
@BLUEFROG got it. I was thinking about the overall goal, not the means.
I mostly use widescreen mode, so to me the column view seemed pretty close to what you’re asking for.
I guess I don’t understand why you want the list specifically in the preview pane.
