Unable to enter new data

DEVONthink 4.0beta3
When I go to Data, New, and choose plain text, markdown, whatever, I get a new note like always, but I can’t type into the window below. No cursor, just blank white space I can’t click.

What am I doing wrong? I think I’m doing the same thing I did in V3.

I can create it elsewhere, then add via “new from clipboard”, but not directly.

As a side note, why do markdown files display as E-Book?

You might want to consider switching your view to “edit mode”. The icon to the right of the currently selected, blue one.

Right click on any MD file in Finder, open the Info panel and change the default app for all MD files. Standard MacOS feature, BTW.

Adding to what @chrillek said, there is a preference for the default display of markdown in Settings > Files > Markdown. You can set it to “Edit Documents” if you prefer.

My apologies. The 2nd questions was a duh moment. But as to my first, none of those options change the fact that I can’t enter anything when creating a new document. It doesn’t matter which icon I select, or what display option I choose in settings. I tried all of those options before posting. Hence, the post.

Difficult to know what you did … Anyway, the process works ok fine here (and I guess most everywhere, or people would have started to complain earlier). So, it’s probably (!) something in your setup.

I figured it out. There is a large empty space at the top. I have to click down to the middle to type. This is a new behavior for me, compared to V3.

Ah, I wondered if you were using the beta. I remember seeing a couple of posts about confusion from the new editor.

I have no direct experience with the beta yet, but I’m pretty sure you have “Typewriter-like Scrolling” enabled. According to the manual you change that in the menu under Editing > Format.

@BLUEFROG maybe this can be improved for the typewriter setting, so that it doesn’t matter where in the window the user clicks (?)

@troejgaard Bless you! That was the fix!

And/or if it’s enabled by default, you might consider swapping that – if it confuses too many people. Though I do get the desire to show off all the new bells and whistles :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Typewriter-like scrolling is disabled by default.
