Understanding search

I am a new purchaser of DEVONthink Office Pro.

A little confused by search…

For example, I tag a document something like “Tag” and store it in my “Personal” database. Days later I type “tag” in the search and hundreds of irrelevant documents show up but not the one I want. Same for document titles and folders.

Speaking of tags, are tags limited to each database or do they transcend multiple databases?

They are matching based on given terms and scopes. Click the magnifying glass and you’ll see what scope, like Name or Contents, is being used. Also, you can’t search for tags with this method. You can only search for tags with a Smart Group (see Data > New > Smart Group) or the Advanced options in Tools > Search.

Tags are local to a database.
