Could you please move checking for updates in the background, after app has opened? It seems to me that currently update checking happens during startup and slows down app opening.
That’s under your control. Look at your Preferences setting for the Updates tab.
It happens according to your personal setting in > Preferences > Update.
Here on my 2007 iMac with 4 GB RAM and OS10.7 DtPO opens 4 databases with a total of 8.5 GB in less than 10 seconds - the start of the app already included - no matter, if it checks for updates on startup or not.
And if you check manually DtP tells you within 2 seconds if a newer version was found.
