Update error in DTP 3.5 to 3.8

When I open my DTP v 3.52, I get a software notification window that there is a v. 3.8. When I click install update, it downloads the update, and I click the install and relaunch button, but then I get an error message:
*Update error! *
An error occurred while relaunching DEVONthink, but the new version will be available next time you run DEVONthink.

I’ve tried several times, and on the forums someone suggested reinstalling from the downloads page, which I did, but again got 3.52.

The message error also says that it will be updated when I relaunch the software, but it is not.

Any suggestions about what is wrong/ what to do? Thank you.

No suggestion as yet, some questions:

  • which version of macOS are you on?
  • are you using and Intel Mac or an M1?
  • what is the path to the DEVONthink app on your Mac?

Mac OS 10.14.6 (Mojave); Intel iCore i5 chips. DevonThink is in my root level applications folder, which is where it prompted me to install it with the installer .dmg
