Upgrade Path from DT3 to DT4 Pro?

Hi everyone,

I currently have a license for DT3 (my customer account says “DEVONthink Pro”). Now I’d like to upgrade to version 4. If I understand correctly, there are two editions: DT4 and DT4 Pro – and I would like to get the Pro version with AI features, better OCR, etc.

My question: how do I upgrade from DT3 to DT4 Pro? Do I purchase the $99 upgrade for 12 months, or do I need to buy the full Pro version for $199?

Thanks in advance for your help!

These questions should already be answered on this page…

I wish they were after having read this article completely BEFORE posting my question.

Maybe it´s because Englisch is not my first language. However, I still feel like my question is not yet answered.

I even asked ChatGPT to check the text, and it also couldn’t find a definite answer to whether a DT3 Pro license upgrades straight to DT4 Pro or not.

Thanks in advance for any clarification!

I finally made the hop from Monterey to Sequoia (yay, Apple Silicon) and found my existing license key worked fine.

That may be because I updated my license key when DT4 came out because I thought surely I would update my equipment soon.

Even if your old key doesn’t work I think you’ll be able to use Devonthink in trial mode with all features for long enough to get help with the key.

I haven’t upgraded yet. If I login to my customer account, I see this:

Clicking “Upgrade” takes me to this page:

I think that’s pretty clear?

Also, the upgrader’s guide BLUEFROG linked includes this:

Can I downgrade to a lower edition before upgrading?

Yes, we can downgrade your license to a lower edition if you don’t need the functionality of the higher edition anymore and want to save upgrade costs and, later, costs for extending the updates of your license. As you paid good money for the additional feature set of the higher edition, we need your confirmation that you have understood that downgrading is not revocable and are sure that you want to do it. Please contact our sales support with the request.

Downgrading to a lower edition before upgrading your license is an exception – to the point that it requires contacting sales support directly for confirmation.

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.

I’m afraid I used my trial period already, not particularly productively I have to admit… :grimacing:

Apologies and no offense intended. Very busy morning and I forwarded your support ticket to our Sales expert.
