Hello,
My queries abound, it would seem.

I’m trying to use the JSTOR plugin, but I have university access, so I would need to use a proxy. I tried to create my own JSTOR plugin using the proxy link provided by my librarian: [http://proxy.library.emory.edu/login?url=http://www.jstor.org](http://proxy.library.emory.edu/login?url=http://www.jstor.org). I’ve also gone ahead and authenticated using that URL in the DEVONagent browser before attempting the search. The plugin I created does not allow me to enter my user name and password. When I try to do a JSTOR search using either the built-in plugin or the one I created I get 0 results.

The forums weren’t very helpful in trouble shooting this and seemed pretty dated. Is there a step by step process for setting this up via a proxy as described above? Thanks!!

DEVONagent doesn’t support proxies yet. How did you create your plugin actually, did you have a look at the source of the existing plugin?

I just tried to use a proxy URL as described in some of the older forums. There seems to be discussion of proxies in the forums, so can you explain if there is no support for proxies or just not in the way I’ve described? Am I simply not able to use JSTOR through DEVONagent and a proxy from my institution?

DEVONagent does not include any built-in or automatic support for proxies. Depending on your proxy it might or might not be possible to write a plugin for it. Hard to tell without the source of your plugin.

Based on what I was able to read on very old forum posts, I just used this URL: proxy.library.emory.edu/login?url=http://www.jstor.org

And how did you exactly use it where?

</div>

I tried including it on a “New Plugin.” It currently says “Searches on the website \<proxy.library.emory.edu/login?url=http://www.jstor.org\>.” Again, I’m not even sure if this is correct, but perhaps you know of a way to use my university’s proxy to gain access to JSTOR through the search? That would be helpful.

This doesn’t work, the URL doesn’t include a parameter for the search term. It’s probably better to duplicate the existing plugin and to update especially the values of `EngineUrl`and `LoginUrl`.

Apologies, but I’m not very literate with this kind of stuff. When I duplicate the built-in JSTOR plugin, I am able to only see the following

Oh, wow, sorry for being dense. Yes, I see it now. I also see the two values you mention. Should I put in the proxy my librarians provided for either or both of those values? Or something else? (Thanks for walking me through this!)

You could prefix the existing values with `proxy.library.emory.edu/login?url=`. E.g.

…would be…

…afterwards. But no guarantee that this will work or is even possible in your case.

I have just bought Devon. My impression is that I notice myself the software partly because it simply has not been updated for a very long time.

Jstore replies:
You may be trying to access JSTOR with an out-of-date or incompatible browser, causing some features not to load or work correctly. In order to maximize your JSTOR experience we suggest you update to a more recent browser version or install a [more compatible browser](https://support.jstor.org/hc/en-us/articles/115004975388-Browser-Compatibility) to use with JSTOR.

My access to JStore is through a tunnel. Everything works normally through the browser. The original plug from Devonagent does not work at all anymore. I have built a plugin in according to instructions, this generates the above response. In my opinion everything is correct. I feel a little screwed because I just purchased the software and it seems to be a time eater.

The next release will include an updated JSTOR plug-in, the current API is not suitable for an updated plug-in.

**I am very pleased that the software is developed further!** I had some concerns about this. As a long-time Devonthink user, I am happy about the success of DevonThink Pro. Your software helps me a lot in my work. I wish you that Devonagent Pro will also be such a success. I am very much looking forward to the update!

To deal with DevonAgent, I also bought the book by Michael Malzahn in your store. Unfortunately there are no instructions for editing the modules in the book, only a reference to the manual. I would be happy if in the near future practical descriptions for these tasks are available.

**Are there any workarounds, or mnemonics, until the update is released? For example, to include ebsco and .php search rails, etc.?**

Examples about which function I would be happy:

Did you have a look at the official manual/help? It’s also available in various formats from our website:

Yes, I have translated and partially read the instructions with Deepl. However, I am more the copy & paste type and my English is not very good. Let’s say I am rather simple minded, hence my question.

Unfortunately each website and search engine is different, there’s no generic plug-in approach that works in all cases. The easiest & most generic approach is to create a search set, add the desired sites and switch the mode to _Search_ instead of _Crawl_ (see _Sites_ tab of _Search Sets_ panel). While this works in many cases, a plug-in delivers more precise results.
