Using More Distinctive Color, Tone or Design on Active Tabs

Currently tabs seem like this:

And I can’t see easily which one is active, If you could do inactive tab space background color, a little bit more dark, that would be great.

If it is any help at all, I always look for the ‘x’ that appears in the active tab in place of the document’s icon.
