Variable thickness for 'I-beam pointer' or 'block insertion point'

I keep losing the blinking ‘I-beam pointer’, or ‘I-cursor’, which slows down my writing.

I’d like to suggest that it might be variable in thickness, by a preference, as is the case in certain other apps, like Scrivener (in Scrivener’s preference it’s referred to as the “block insertion point width”).
