I would love to be able to use variables in smart groups. Example/use case: automagically updating tickler file.
This can be done currently using hundreds of nested groups and several applescripts. An alternative implementation would be to tag documents with the date on which you will need them and create a Smart Group containing all documents whose tag is the current date.
