Does DT currently support an AppleScript that would perform Verify & Repair? I don’t do this as often as I should, so I was going to try and automate the process, but it doesn’t seem that the feature is scriptable.

There’s no such command but DT 1.7.3 will apply a simplified verification every time the database files are modified. As long as hardware (especially the harddisc) and filesystems are fine, this should prevent file related problems.
Why not use the option "Full compression on quit"? This optimizes the databases too (but does not create or modify the backups).
