Yes, the result gives the “ok” dialog box, but while it’s doing it you can “look away” into another window even in another app and ignore DEVONthink for the duration of it’s verify and repair, check back only when you feel like it.
I’ve been using DTP for years. I’ve almost never had databases be error free. It’s one of the DTP annoyances I live with. Maybe self-caused. Not sure what that says about my computer hygiene. (However, I don’t often have DTP or my Mac crash.)
Well, I can’t say I always do. Sometimes I shut down all the apps then shut down the computer. Sometimes I just shutdown the computer. Sometimes…I close the computer and run.
Should I have started this post with… “Hello, my name is John…”?
I don’t think it’s necessary, since you have already provided a reference handle which is your username. Nevertheless, it could be helpful to give us a general tip that “I have very specific principles regarding online privacy so don’t make me feel threatened with questions regarding how I use my device.”
No worries! There are plenty of people who don’t close apps habitually, just as there are those who think having the longest uptime will eventually win them a prize
Regardless what year it is and any hype from Apple or tech “gurus”, explicitly closing applications before shutting down a machine is still a good idea. This is especially important for DEVONthink as it has processes it runs on shutdown, like finishing syncs, etc.
In DEVONthink, hold the Option key and select Help > Report Bug and we will look at the crash logs to see if anything else is going on.
