Voice note recording shuts off automatically

I sometimes record voice notes ranging 4-8 minutes with DTTG. I put my headphones in, hit record, then put my phone away and ramble for a while.

In DTTG3, it seems that soon after the screen shuts off (after a minute or so, I guess), the voice note recording cuts off, and whatever I have said up until that point is lost. In DTTG2 this was not the case – I could pick up my phone many minutes later and the recording would have continued. Now it seems that I need to tap the screen constantly to keep it “alive” in order for the recording to continue. Is this expected behavior? I would be happier if I could focus on speaking!
