What does the font in a RichText refer to?

The current scripting dictionary say:

RichText Object [see also Extended Text Suite] : Rich (styled) text
elements
contains…
properties
font (text or missing value) : The name of the font of the first character.

Apart from the question why the first character of a RichText might not have a font (missing value)…

This description seems to say (to me) that if I set a RichText’s font property to something, only the first character of the text would be set to that font.
Which is not what I see: If I assign something to an RT’s font property, the whole text is set to that font.
Is that intended? Am I misreading the scripting dictionary?

Retrieving the font returns indeed the font of the first character (as the second character might already use a different font). Changing the font affects the complete rich text though.
