what is DT Pro Office’s “ScanSnap” functionality?

I’m probably being dense here but while I know that this app has this functionality, I can’t find a description of what that functionality is? What does it do with a ScanSnap that it doesn’t do with another scanner that scans to PDF?

I apologize if there’s some blazingly obvious link I’m missing. I’ve been looking, just not seeing it.

The thing that it does with the ScanSnap is that it can setup itself as the default scan destination by checking the preferences of the ScanSnap Manager application. This will then result in the automatic start of the OCR process and creation of a new record in our database by pressing the "scan button on the ScanSnap itself.

This will soon also be possible with the ExactScan application.
