When I choose “Update Indexed Items,” should I see something happen?

There is no indication that I can see that tells me anything is happening, and no concluding dialog box. Thoughts?

Open Window > Activity before using the command, and you will see a brief message tracking the action in progress. The message is not retained unless certain failures occur.

What would you expect to see? These things are intended to happen transparently in the background. In fact, I would anticipate a lot of complaints if we made it come front and center.

@korm – Tried it. Nothing, not even brief.

@Bluefrog – I neither want nor need to know about it if it is happening in the background. But, when I manually issue the command, I expect to see something, even if it is “Done."

It’s the first request I recall but it’s noted.

If nothing is happening then it means that it’s just nothing to update.
As for me personally, I have many indexed files and I understand that DT is updating indexed items when interface freeze a bit. But it’s very quick, like 3-5 seconds.

And you are right - there are no any log about what was done exactly. I’d prefer to have it logged, and deleted records (for example, which lost its file - moved or deleted in filesystem) be in this log and seen in trash in case I prefer to recover it instead of reindexing, because reindexing brakes all reps, links, removes custom metadata and changes UUID. Sometimes it is much easier to find lost file manually or by script. This would make a safer use of indexed items.
