Where is the new bookmarklet for 'clip to DT'?

Hi,
Just installed the latest DT update (3.9.5)

In release notes we’re told there is a new and improved “clip to DT” bookmarklet. But when I go to the Mozilla add-on site, the same 3-yr-old add-on for DT is all I find.

How do I install this new bookmarklet for Firefox?

David

You won’t find a bookmarklet on Mozilla – that’s not an extension but a piece of JavaScript (as has been explained in a thread just yesterday). Searching for “Bookmarklet” in DT’s online help should tell you all you need to know.

The documentation is, btw, always a good place to look for answers.

I should have mentioned that of course I tried this option in the Help menu. This was the result:

To be clear, I clicked Help, then Clicked “Extensions and Bookmarklets” and got the above. Every. Single. Time. For 3 weeks now.

Wondering what I am doing wrong.

Yes, well, the documentation tells me to go to Install Add-Ons which window does indeed invite me to install code for Firefox. Which, when I click on it, takes me to Mozilla’s page for the 3-year-old Firefox extension.

So far two people here have told me the answer is obvious and neither of their suggestions has yielded an answer. I don’t mind being told to RTFM if the FM actually has the answer! Not y experience here though.

Did you look into the three bulleted points as possible causes?

Can you share here the URL that you are attempting to clip for others to try?

I appreciate your candid feedback and understand the frustration when the manual doesn’t provide the answers you’re looking for. It’s clear you value direct and efficient solutions, evidenced by your willingness to suggest “RTFM” to yourself as a first step. However, it’s important to remember the effort and knowledge that community members and devontech staff, like @BLUEFROG pour into these resources (devontech forum and manual). When these guides fall short of expectations, it can certainly be disappointing. Rather than diminishing the value of these contributions, highlighting specific areas where the manual could be improved might be more constructive. This approach not only respects the considerable effort invested by contributors but also actively helps in enhancing the resource for everyone’s benefit. Encouraging a culture of constructive feedback and collaboration will likely motivate more members to contribute to solving problems, ensuring our community remains a supportive and enriching space for all.

See Help > Extension & Bookmarklets > Bookmarklets, then click on the link to our Extras page (DEVONtechnologies | Handbooks and Extras).

But sometimes the help viewer’s cache of macOS is outdated and causes the above error message but rebooting and/or reinstalling the app should fix this.

However, bookmarklets are optional and rarely necessary (e.g. if a browser doesn’t support extensions).

Good point, and I apologize if I struck anyone as dismissive of the efforts of the DT people to write a good manual, or of people here to help one another. That was not my intent. Sorry!

What I was responding instead to was the implication in replies that all I need do was look at documentation or other threads – I thought it suggested that people with questions here haven’t done enough work before posting. The DT splash screen tells users that the best way to use the app is just to dive right in. Given that ethos, I don’t think anyone ought to say, “oh, but you didn’t go paging through the documentation. Tsk tsk.” But perhaps I was reading more into the replies than was really there.

Again, I appreciate this community and the developers – especially the speed with which they respond here. Never my intention to suggest otherwise!

Thanks! I’ll do that.

Agree – this isn’t essential. I was just curious about the new tool. (And interested in a method that might get things into DT more reliably than the old Firefox extension). I do realize the challenge lies in the multiplicity of website designs, coding, paywalls etc etc.
