Where Should DEVONthink’s Built-in Scripts Be Stored?

Hi everyone,

I’m confused about where DEVONthink expects its built-in scripts to be for them to show up in the Scripts menu. I’ve only used scripts installed via “Install Extras”—no manual scripts—but I see them in both /Library/Application Scripts/com.devon-technologies.think/Menu and /Library/Scripts/Applications.

Which folder should DEVONthink use for its Scripts menu, and do I need to move anything myself or should the app handle it? I’m on DEVONthink [version] with [macOS version].

Thanks for any help!

I just go to the “Open Scripts Folder” selection at the top of the Scripts menubar list. From there I see what all I’ve installed and can add new ones within that structure that show up in the menu.

Those are two different sets of scripts for two different purposes (and the locations are by Apple’s design). And no, you don’t need to mess about with anything in the User Library.

PS:

  • ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.devon-technologies.think/Menu is DEVONthink’s Scripts menu.
  • ~/Library/Scripts/Applications are application scripts from whomever, including e.g., our Apple Mail scripts.

Shouldn’t those folders be ~/Library/..., i.e. under the user’s home directory? Here, it looks as if they were system-wide folders. And I don’t have /Library/Application Scripts/ at all, nor /Library/Scripts/Applications

The manual covers all the various script locations. See Automation > AppleScript > Installation

Yes. Fixed. Copied and pasted from original post and didn’t pay attention.
