Which file format is best to share between desktop and mobile?

I just started using DevonThink and want to use it on macOS, iPad and iPhone. So far I have quite a hard time figuring out which file format lets me edit on both platforms.

  • Markdown: Can’t create on MacBook and edit on iPhone
  • RTF: Can create on MacBook but editing on iOS is buggy (lag, app crashes etc.)
  • HTML: Same story as Markdown
  • Plain text: Works fine on both platforms

How are handling seasoned folks these issues?

Welcome @rufus42

  • Markdown: Can’t create on MacBook and edit on iPhone

Sure you can. Markdown files created in or imported to DEVONthink can be viewed and editing in DEVONthink To Go.

Thank you! How can I mark them as “editable”? As soon as I convert or save a new Markdown file, it becomes “Read only”.

Are you referring to DEVONthink or DEVONthink To Go ?

DEVONThink macOS. In iOS, I can just click “edit”, but I can’t find any button in the desktop app.

You can choose View > Document Display > Source or Side-by-Side.
You can also click the desired button in the Editing bar above the view/edit pane…

This is covered in the Help > Documentation > Documents > Markdown and a mention of the default view of Markdown files in Preferences > Media.
