Will files from a DT trial open in DN?

My trial of DevonThink 1.9.16 ran out, and all the files are in the proprietary format. As I only need DevonNote, not Devonthink, for my everyday use, could I possibly buy DevonNote, and retrieve my unaccessible files?

I’m a student, having to recreate notes as I study for tests. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Two alternative suggestions:

  1. Request a 30-day extension of the demo period for DT Personal 1.9.16. That can be done at the fourth ‘lifesaver’ symbol at devon-technologies.com/support/index.html

When you receive the demo extension by email (which can only be issued once), launch DT Personal 1.9.16 and select and export ALL the content (files & folders) to a new target folder in the Finder.

Now all your notes are available in the Finder. You will then be able to import the text files and bookmarks into DEVONnote.

  1. Download and install a demo of DEVONthink Personal 2.0 (current post is public beta 8, which will expire 28 February, 2010).

When DT Personal 2.0 is first launched, it will ‘see’ and offer to copy/convert your existing DT Personal 1.x database into the version 2 database. Allow that to be done. When the conversion is complete, select ALL the content of your database and Export it (files & folders) to a new target folder in the Finder.

Now all your notes are available in the Finder. You will then be able to import the text files and bookmarks into DEVONnote.

COMMENT: In DEVONthink 1.x some file types including text files, HTML, and WebArchive files were stored in the ‘monolithic’ database and so could not be recovered except by running the application to export them.

In the DEVONthink 2.x applications ALL files are stored in their native filetypes within the database and can be recovered without having to export them. (Also true of DEVONnote 2.x.)

Thanks a bunch. I’m more confident in your products because of your support.
