I often import via chrome in all kinds of formats. The goto search window appears and I select where I want to store the item. It would be nice if at that stage I could also assign the label (only tags possible presently) so that I can go on with my work without having to open DT→ find the item→ assign label

The group selector? Or the clipping interface of the Sorter? However, you could assign a tag instead and a smart rule could convert tags to labels.
