Can’t even begin to figure out upgrade price from 2 to 3. I can’t find a page with if you own DTPO 2, DTPO 3 will be X dollars.
I did download it, BUT when it opened it asked about server??? Not sure how to download just Pro 3. But I got nervous about the whole server thing. I closed and quickly deleted the app. I just wanted DTPO 3.
But after reading this thread, I know I can’t afford $399.00 as someone stated above for upgrade after discount. But I understand some can.
Congratullations!!
This is great news and version 3 looks incredible. Time to dive on the new features!
I just purchased the Pro Office version around 6 months ago and sadly I need to pay the upgrade for a few months but really happy to try your hard work!
If you go to your account and your list of licences, click on the one for DT v2 and you’ll get a table giving you upgrade prices specifically for you (e.g. if you’re in education, you’ll see the relevant discounted price, if you bought after 1 Feb, you’ll see the 0 price and so on)
If you’re not (!) going to use version 2 anymore, then you could move the folder ~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink Pro 2/Cloudy to ~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 3.
In case of concurrent usage of both versions you could create an alias of the above folder and add it to DEVONthink 3’s app support folder.
But do not (!) copy the cloudy folder, this could create a mess.
How large are the opened databases (number of words/items, see File > Database Properties)? In addition, is still enough memory free (see Apple’s Activity Monitor.app) or does virtual memory slow down things already?
I know it is a lot, but with DT2, each “See Also…” worked only on its own database. I (and I assume a lot of people with big or a lot of databases) will need to sort this problem or the program will become completely unusable.
When doing the operation, CPU goes about 99% and memory does not cross the border of the 15GB, when I have more free memory and no swap pressure. Take a look to the picture.
Christian, thx for all the work in this new version. Have jumped in full time. Which files/folders need to be deleted to remove all traces of DTO v2? Steve J
It’s indeed a lot of stuff, the amount of unique words in some of your databases is insane and the total word count exceeds 1 billion. Do the databases with more than 1 million unique words contain a lot of OCRed PDF documents?
Removing the app, the app support folder (~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink Pro 2/) and some caches (~/Library/Caches/com.devon-technologies.thinkpro2 and ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/DEVONthink Pro 2) should be sufficient.
Yes, most of those are Indexed PDF. The thing is with DT2 works fine as it only do the operation for its own local DB.
Said that, if DT3 will work having all the stuff for each operation, then the option to have more than one database loses part of its sense, as does not matter what you have in what, it will be accounted. And opening and closing databases doesn’t seems optimally to me.
Perhaps best solution could be have one option to disable Global and go back to Local only, even if it is one do the hidden options… Or the ability to have more than one full and isolated DT3 session open…
I’m using DT because is not a OneNote (that is crap) or Evernote replacement, I’m using DT because it “correlates” all my stuff… Not having that option, the reason to use it decreases a lot.
Maybe we’ll add a (hidden) pref to upcoming builds. BTW: Is is faster after verifying all databases or still slow? You could also try whether the unique word count of a smaller database will be reduced by rebuilding the database.
No improvement after “Verify and Repair” all databases.
Significant improvement after “Optimize” all databases, up to about 5 seconds to change between documents, that is not much time in perform the operation.
In relation to the unique number of words, most databases contains English, Spanish and French documents.
Hi Christian, just to be clear on your suggestion >> does one replace the DT3/Cloudy folder (it hasn’t seen any sync activity as of yet) with the DTPO2/Cloudy folder in its entirety – orleave the handful of existing DT3 files/folders that are already inside the DT3/Cloudy folder, and drop in the rest of the data from DTPO2’s /Cloudy – or ‘move’ it, and leave both [DTPO2 and DT3] /Cloudy folders in the new location?
From what I can work out, DTPO2’s /Downloads, /Manifests and /Status folders, obviously have sub-folders etc. in them, given past sync activity.
Whilst the Locations.plist, Preferences.plist and Host.plist(?) appear to be similar, the noticeable difference between DTPO2 and DP3, is obviously the Sync.log…
Thanks Jim >> apologies for being so pedantic, but just want to check: By ‘replace’, you mean I can ‘move’/cut-n-paste /Cloudy of DT3, with that of the /Cloudy folder of DTPO2?
