2 Questions: Clipping from iPad? and Saving a link in DTPO?

I visit a lot of web sites on my iPad with the Safari browser. Is there any way to clip to DEVONthink Pro Office directly from the iPad. What I’m doing now is rather cumbersome and there might be a better way even if I can’t clip.

Whenever I’m looking at a web page on the iPad and want to get it into DTPO I’ll send myself a link from the web page. Then, when it arrives in my inbox in mail.app on my desktop machine, I highlight it and select Add to DTPO from the Messages menu.

That then brings me to the second question. So the email was added from mail.app to DTPO, I open that email in DTPO and click on the link in it, and the page I want opens in the DTPO browser.

What I would then like is to get an item that works the way an item does if you clipped it to DTPO in your browser: that is, when an item lands in your DT inbox that was clipped and you click the name of the item, the page opens in the DT browser.

I’m trying to figure out how to create that type of item within DTPO from the URL that’s displaying in the DTPO browser after I’ve clicked the link that I sent myself in mail.

I haven’t been able to figure out how to do that.

What I’m doing now is really kludgy: I double click on the URL and the page opens in Safari. There I can clip to DTPO. Then I go back to DTPO and delete the email that had the link in it because I now have an item that will open the page directly. I assume there is surely is an easy way to do this.

I hope you were able to follow this convoluted process. I could really use some help because this is not an occasional item now and then, but some heavy volume.

I send the page from Safari iPad to Instapaper and then I subscribe to an RSS feed of my Instapaper account in DEVONthink Pro Office. You could also save the pages to the Reading List in Safari iPad and then open same in Safari Mac. I expect that either method would be easier and require less steps than emailing the link to yourself.

You can just open the URL in DEVONthink, right-click on the page, and select Capture Page Address. This will give you a bookmark to the page, saved in the same group as the original email with link.

Great ideas, Greg. This will help a lot. Thanks so much.

You can continue to mail the link to yourself. But in Mail.app, make a rule that uses an applescript to move the link to DevonThink.

You will need some kind of unique identifier in the mail - maybe a separate mail address for sending the links to.
