  1. Upgraded to 4.4
  2. Two “DEVONthink MCP” processes always appear in Activity Monitor
  3. Port 8420 is not in use
  4. Config file has only one MCP entry
  5. Experiencing timeout errors with Claude Desktop

That’s an issue of Claude Desktop launching two instances.

A screenshot and additional details would be useful.

Why has the problem only started to happen since I did the update yesterday? I have been using Claude Desktop with DEVONthink/MCP for about 2 months without any issues regarding timing out. The work I did yesterday and today is no different than the work I have been doing since the start of the project. Only way to temporarily resolve it was to kill off one MCP via Activity Monitor.

I am new to both DEVONthink and Claude and I am keen to keep learning to resolve issues as they arise.

Impossible to tell without additional details. So far we haven’t received any similar reports.

Problem identified - thanks to your advice. Yesterday I force quit one of the MCP processes while keeping both DT and CD running. Then I only shut down DT and AM showed 1 MCP process still running, which must belong to CD. This morning I shut down both DEVONthink and Claude Desktop. Checked Activity Monitor and both MCP processes were gone. I reopened Claude Desktop only and check of AM shows 2 MCP processes running. I am lodging support request at Anthropic now. Thanks for your persistence and help.
