A way to paste markdown into DT as markdown?

Hello! DEVONthink does a good job distinguishing between rich and plain text when pasting the clipboard to create a new record. But markdown text is also pasted as a plain text document, which we then have to convert and then *re-*paste since converting add slashes everywhere (and rightly so). Is there a setting somewhere that will (temporarily) let pastings create markdown files instead of plain text?

Update: Crikey! I searched for a while for this topic and nothing came up! Then, as I finished the final keystrokes of my question, the Your topic is similar to … wizard gave me a bunch of hits. This looks to be the solution:

Just add an “.md” file extension to the already-made plain text file.

I had no idea that extensions could be added like this. After 17 years of use.

Update #2: I tried it and the inspector window still lists the file as Plain Text Document. Yet the text inside is now reacting to the markdown. It’s both plain text and markdown!

One option is to use Edit > Paste & Match Style, another one the hidden preference RawMarkdownPasting
