A YT video about using DT vs Zotero for PDF handling

I found this interesting, esp. the cloud and sync problems experienced.

I never tried to get annotations or text markings of PDFs out of DT / DTTG for use in other App.
Is that possible, contrary to what the video says?
(Ah, yes - will scan the manual)

It is very easy to get PDF annotations out of DEVONthink. The basic is: Tools > Summarize Annotations > [Markdown, RTF, Sheet]. If you search the forum, there are many set-ups and workflows.

I’m not gonna watch the whole 29 min. video. I find the video format so tedious for this kind of stuff and much prefer to just read. Only watched intro + DEVONthink part.

To spare others the time: Her use-case & scenario looks very narrow. Most of her reading is ebooks. She already has a system she is very invested in centred on Obsidian. The problem she is looking to solve is a workflow for reading and deep-linking her 127 GB collection of Tabletop RPG books in PDF. It has to sync everywhere, especially mobile. Well, she uses an Android phone. Also, since the PDFs take up so much space, she doesn’t want to keep them local…

I think she quickly disqualified DEVONthink when she realised it was iOS/macOS only. She doesn’t really describe her sync problems with DT, just that she couldn’t get it to work and it was “weird”. I get the impression she didn’t try that hard or read one line in the manual.

Yes, she has a very valid use-case and is in a common situation!
Very interesting stuff to watch and think about …

Thanks for the hint about annotations!

Her use case is certainly valid, I didn’t say otherwise  I only said it was narrow. And I don’t imagine it is very common

Most people in my environment have similar needs, just saying.
It fits even most of my needs, but for me the encryption is the most important part - which I can reach with DT / DTTG together with Working Copy.

Maybe I am looking at it with too narrow a lens then. I just wanted to make you aware of the Summarize Annotation feature
