Abby Reader is 32 bits

I see in the system report (Mojave 10.14.5) that Abby reader is still a 32 bits piece of software. The version is installed by ScanSnap ix500 in 2018, version 5.0.0. It was according to the report last used on July 2, 2019, but I am sure that I converted another text in DTP2 from pdf to PDF+text. So there may be another version of Abby reader on the HD, which is installed by DTP2 or DTP 3beta and that is 64 bits. But I can’t find it.
Can anyone explain, and should I do something about it?

Thanks,

Jean Pierre Jansen

Mojave still supports 32-bit components, so of course it still works.
Catalina is supposed to completely remove 32-bit support - but Apple has been threatening this for years. I’ll make my judgment when it is piblicly released.

Regarding the OCR component, DEVONthink 3 will have a newly updated 64-bit version. Cheers!

Pretty sure that Apple will not be putting 32-bit back into Catalina after pulling it from the beta. The saddest thing is that it kills off a lot of old Mac games.

Scansnap Home now includes a 64-bit version of ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap. I just installed it for my new ix1500, since Scansnap Manager and my old S1500M won’t make the upcoming 32-bit transition. :frowning:

Never say never. Apple has been saying this for a long time. Microsoft’s lack of adoption of 32-bit components contributed to stalling Apple’s deprecation in more than one version of the operating system.
I think it’s more likely true this time, but we shall see in September.

OK,

thanks for the info.
We wait and see.
