How can I ensure that a tag I’m adding to a document using the information popup is the same as the one that already exists? Sometimes after I’ve typed a few initial characters of the tag it fills in the existing tag, although even then I’ve got to watch carefully because the tag is partially obscured by the little + sign. Most times, however, nothing pops up and I have to be careful I don’t misspell the tag and create a new one by mistake.
What I do is I periodically inspect the tag list, and fix any deviations.
Thanks. I can do that. I was just hoping there was a way in the UI to stop it happening in the first place. Adding tags to a document is not easy.
Yep, tagging is one of those things that can use a careful curation. I had tagging mushroom beyond control in the past. Nowadays I try to have no more than a few dozen, plus, I have some “control” tags which I prefix with a “+” - e.g., “+ Update”, “+ Addenda” - this one for things that are lists that I am always updating.
Are you in the database where the specific tag you’re looking for exists? The occasions when I’ve had errors has usually been because I was in the global inbox and started typing for a tag that doesn’t exist there.
Yes, definitely in the database. Some of the documents in the same group already have the tags in question.
Hmm, the tag should never fill itself in, but an editing menu should appear with the most popular tags that fit the entered characters. When a word fills in automatically, it’s probably iOS’ auto-completion.
That’s just my bad explanation. It doesn’t fill in. Very rarely the tag appears as I’m typing and I can select it, but most times it doesn’t.
In theory, the + button should show up and tapping it should show the menu. Nothing should show up automatically.
Once you type 3 characters, matching tags across your databases are detected and display the + button. This behavior will persist as long as matches are available, e.g.,…
We have never seen a report of the button obscuring the tag being typed. If you are actually seeing this, post a screen capture.
Got it now, thanks. I am using a keyboard with the iPad and didn’t realise I needed to click the + sign when it appeared.
