I read in the manual:
“To give you more control over where AI is getting
its answer, you’ll need to set permissions for
what AI can access in the AI > Chat settings.
For example, if you want it to use online
searches, set it here.”
Would it be better to set these options in the chat window, depending on the document and the task in hand? It does not seem to be very optimal to set them, at least some of them like web access, for example) globally.
Thanks for the suggestion, an upcoming release might support this. In the meantime simply enabling e.g. the web search and then telling the AI to search the web (or not) at the end of the prompt is a possible workaround.
Thanks Christian,
I was not aware of this possibility through the prompt. I thought that DTP would ask to include web searches in its prompts if we check this box globally. Which other options could be driven with the prompt in the chat window? Screen shot is set once for all I imagine?
I’ve found, when accessing multiple models via Kagi, that it’s often better to disable the “RAG, compare with current search results option”. This can be a valuable option when conducting deep research tasks. But considering the best reasoning models have RAG built in, it’s often adding considerable IO time, for little reward. I actually find it to be more useful with the cheaper, faster Ai models.
Having the option to enable/disable web search at point of need, is a far better option than it being a ‘set and forget’ user preferences option. However, the checkbox could benefit with an informative tooltip, as inexperienced Ai users may not understand what the option is actually providing.
