Always synced, but no dl-ed

Hi all :wave:t2:
Is there any option that would allow the databases to always be in sync but without being actually downloaded ?

=> I saved a lot of PDF files in my databases on the puter. That syncs very well in the storage area I’ve set.
Now, when, let’s say, the day after, I open DTTG I don’t see those pdf’s until I hit the cloud button at the bottom. I have then to wait for the sync to finish to see them listed in the app.

==> I want them to be listed automatically but not necessarily downloaded since I don’t need every single pdf to be avail.

On iOS, there’s no reliable background processing as macOS. That’s why you have to press the cloud symbol to get it going.

Did you enable the option to download documents manually? Sync locations, databases and groups provide this option.

Is your sync set to Manual in DEVONthink To Go’s Settings > Sync: Schedule.?

In DTTG there’s only manual and auto. It’s set on auto :confused:

Well, the application has to sync when it opens. The files can’t magically appear without syncing and the app can’t sync if it’s not open.

  • What kind of sync are you using?
  • Is there a triangle on the sync icon in the bottom toolbar of DEVONthink To Go? If so, tap it.

Well I know it won’t automagically sync ‘:slight_smile:
I’m just looking for background sync, just like any other files repository cloud services such as iCloud or Google drive :wink:

It’s just sadden me that I have to hit the cloud icon every time I want it to be synced even though I set on “auto” everywhere I could find the option.

I sync on a WebDAV server and there’s no triangle anywhere.

DEVONthink is not a thin client to a cloud server. We develop software, not cloud services. Also, DEVONthink To Go supports Background App Refresh, but that’s controlled by the operating system. It decides when the process is allowed and terminates it within around 30 seconds.
