Apple Pencil PDF markup issue

Is it possible that the markup behaviour is related to saving or syncing the document in the background as it is being annotated? It might account for the seeming randomness.

I’m using the same interface in the bookends app and it works flawlessly.

It’s an issue with the framework so I can’t say for sure. It seem to deal with palm rejection.

I have the same issue with version 2.7.7. I can confirm that it happens when synching the document (either with a devsonthink pro office server or to a webdav server. If you let the pen touch the display, the whole line will disappear about a second later.

Its very easy to reproduce on my device. It probably happens twice every 10 minutes or so, consistently. Also it is not undo-able so I have to erase the line manually.

This bug did not happen less a year ago or so— then pencilannotation worked pretty much perfectly on my device. Unless this can be fixed, Im probably going to have to start looking for alternatives to DTTG which is really sad because I dont want to have to go outside the Devon-ecosystem to read and annotate my papers/PDF’s…

Bought DTTG recently and have issue as well. Frustrating. Unfortunately not a good first impression of DTTG and have stopped using it.

Again: It’s an issue with the framework

It should be addressed in a future release.

Understand but from user point of view, it is still frustrating as stated. Just adding a +1 to the others rising the same issue. No choice but to wait for next release

I’m not Jim and I have no insight into when the fix will be released, but he said it should be addressed in a future release, not that it will be fixed in the next release.

Its probably not possible for some reason or other, but I wonder if the framework could be reverted to the previous working version, and a minor release of DTTG published while the other improvements are being developed. Having stylus functionality seems pretty close to core functionality, to warrant a release.

Let’s hope for the best. Granted DTTG has not been updated for a while but hopefully the next release will be worth waiting for. LOL, I don’t have a choice anyway since just paid for it.

Darn, thought I’ll give DTTG another go and tried to use in today’s meeting and didn’t go well. Simply not usable. Ended up having customer repeat his points again and took notes on Goodnotes. Should have taken own advice and wait for next release :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

But how does the PDF framework gets distracted by syncing with servers? At least for me, this exclusively happens at the moment when a connection to the WebDAV server is made (as can be seen in the left column)?

I have made a screen recordings of the problem: https://neu.atdotde.de/~robert/highlight.mov in about 90 seconds there are three of these glitches and you can see the cloud icon becoming active always shortly before the glitch.

With the first occurrence there is no sync activity shown.

PS: I’m curious why you’re not using the actual highlighting tool in this instance.

The icon flashes briefly in 0:31(the icon goes from grey to outlined blue, not filled).

Honestly, I was not aware that the first tool is a highlighter (I occasionally use it on desktop, though). As my actual work concerns highlighting mainly scanned documents with tables etc where the scanner/OCR is easily confused about text flow, a highlighter which attempts to follow the text flow is not as useful as for prose.

I too use similar pen-based highlighting for unsearchable PDFs or when OCR doesn’t work.

Thanks for your coordination with the PDF framework devs on this issue. While we wait for a fix in future versions, I wonder if you are aware of any workaround for this issue.

Welcome @shri
There is no workaround at this time, only patience. Thank you

this happens all the time with me. I have the 12.9 inch iPad Pro with 2nd gen Apple Pencil

I’m looking for an update on this issue. I’ve just started using DT and DTTG and I am seeing this problem frequently.
