Apple's Writing Tools and proofreading

I hesitate to refer to anything AI related—fearing a flood of opprobrium (I do, generally, "opprobe” it too!). However…

Based in the UK I’ve just obtained access to Apple’s Writing Tools following the update to macOS 15.2. My limited experience to date suggests that the speedy proofreading ability can be useful (if you ignore some of the idiosyncratic of punctuation suggestions). The problem is that when using any non-native Apple app:

  • the suggestions appear not to be highlighted (so you can’t see what’s being suggested); and
  • you cannot move from change to change viewing the relevant suggestion (so you can’t find what’s being suggested).

Um, I did just wonder… Might there be a possibility that DEVONthink would in due course (given the horribly long list of requests) allow full access (à la native app) to the Writing Tools?

Stephen

DEVONthink is a native Mac app and it was even highlighted by Apple due to its support for Writing Tools:

Only apps using the latest text engine of macOS support the requested possibilities but that’s a really huge change (affecting many things like Wiki linking, Markdown WYSIWYG, AppleScript etc.). Therefore no such plans anytime soon, I’m sorry.

Absolutely understood (and apologies for not appreciating DEVONthink was a native Mac app).

There are workarounds anyway and I’m always happy with the progress of DEVONthink development and the way the company prioritises things.

Thanks for the prompt and helpful response—as always.
