Back to the future

Greetings from Belgium after nearly six years! I finally decided to switch to Apple Silicon after dealing with some challenging times using PCs and Windows laptops. Luckily, an Ubuntu laptop kept me going, for the everyday stuff. Throughout this period, my biggest regret was the absence of a DEVONthink alternative for other platforms.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the version 4 interface hasn’t changed much over the years. While there are new features that are smoother and more streamlined, it still feels familiar. What a relief!

At the user level, this continuity is a significant advantage and extremely valuable. An app that has been around for such a long time can incorporate new technology while remaining user-friendly - a challenging feat.

Kudos to the team for their fantastic work!

Welcome back and thanks for the encouraging words!
There are certainly improvements and modifications to the interface, but indeed no drastic changes. Of course, the UI is the tip of the iceberg, and much has happened below the water line

This isn’t to scale, as the UI is much smaller, but just for fun…

(And yes, this is from multiple iterations of requests – and I had to manually add the text to the image – as AI generation doesn’t usually give you just what you tell it to )

A quick review confirms that the major changes are indeed under the surface. It’s incredible to travel to the future and continue where you left off without a major culture shock.
