Bizarre behavior with indexed files

So I have a folder full of pdfs and markdown files (mostly) which is indexed by my main DT database.

I mostly use these files in Obsidian but I’ve indexed them in DT to be able to do some Devon magic with them.

Today I went to open one of these indexed pdfs from Devonthink (clicking on its filename in a list in my DT window). The pdf appeared and disappeared in a flash (there and then gone in less than a second) and then I saw a blank where it had been. And the filename vanished from the list! This happens with every single indexed file.

Files themselves are unaffected and open normally in Obsidian. Restarting DT had no effect on the problem.

I am on MacOS 15.1 and DT 3.9.8

Anyone know what the problem could be here?

David

When you select the Group in DEVONthink holding that index and then issue the Menu: Update Indexed Items command?

Perhaps see the “DEVONthink Manual”, “Importing and Indexing” section for more ideas.

Did you move, rename or delete the indexed files (or their enclosing folders) in the filesystem? This would explain this behavior as the indexed path isn’t valid anymore.

Thanks. Yeah, I did update indexed items. Had no effect.

I did not. The enclosing folder name is unchanged. That said, it is possible that some of the subfolder names changed. And maybe a dozen out of 2,000 file names. But why would that affect files and folders whose names did not change?

Where is the Obsidian folder located - in iCloud Drive or something?

Nope. It is on my local hard drive.

Local = internal?

Also, did you do a File > Verify & Repair Database on it?
