Just to follow up, some of what I do is informed by ideas from the Zettelkasten website: https://zettelkasten.de/posts/zettelkasten-improves-thinking-writing/. I don’t follow the method closely, but the core idea of short notes (each limited to one idea) with links between them is one I have found useful. So instead of organising one’s notes according to source, one arranges them according to topic or theme. This is why I do most of my work in DT and not in Bookends, which is more geared to looking at each source individually and separately. Of course, you could probably work by theme or topic in Bookends, but I think it would be more difficult. The program is not really geared towards that.
