Can indexed groups be used as tags? Only the enclosing yellow folder (dt’s own group; non-indexed) seems to be included in tags? Thanks,

That’s the default behavior, but it can be changed. Bring up the info panel for the indexed group(s) and uncheck the Exclude from… Tagging box.
