I’m posting this as a separate comment as it’s not related to my problem, but I’ve spotted that if I have my iPad in portrait view and create a markdown file without going full screen in the file first, there’s no option to come out of the edit menu. I can only get out of it by clicking on another file.
The menu looks like this, and I can’t swipe left or right to reveal any other options.
