I should have read the manual more. But I believe I would like Indexing of the documents. I initially imported the various files and folders. But I think I want to change.

However, I will probably never edit a document in DTPro. Rather the document on my hardrive. in order to see these changes much easier, would it not be best to have the files indexed versus imported?

Part two: That said, would it be best to delete the files and index new, or just begin a new database and delete the previous one?

In the end, I would prefer the files on my hard drive be the masters, and DTpro be the quick viewer/database/search facility.

If you don’t need your contents anymore, then there’s no real difference between creating a new database or deleting all contents of the existing database.

Would this not be the best thing to do, which would be index versus import???

Sure. Indexing would be sufficient.
