Is there a way to change the thick blue blockquote color in markdown EDIT mode. I know it is possible to do it in the preview window with CSS, but I can’t figure out how to change it in the edit mode. I find it quite distracting and would love a cleaner look. I thinner line in a grey color or indentation.

You can’t. The visual appearance of edit mode is determined by DT internally. Probably trying to be close to the default CSS used by DT. And if I recall correctly, bookmark styling was advocated for in the forum 
If you really need an MD editor with configurable visual styles, you should use an external one.
I’m enjoying the internal markdown editor, and it has many advantages over using an external editor. My hope is that Devonthink will keep on improving the customisation of it.
I too would like to be able to change Markdown syntax colours in the editor. I find the current colour selection a bit jarring, but prefer some colour over none. Definitely non-essential, but one of those customisations that help the software fit the user like a comfortable glove.

My biggest complaint is that block quotes are italicized. Makes them harder to read and are redundant as the indentation and HUGE borders already convey that it’s a quote.
I also think the boarders are way too conspicuous.
the headings are also too big imo.
And a very very nice to have would be outdented heading markers as in ia writer and ulysses
I can’t speak for the DT developers, of course. But adding all these customization options doesn’t make a lot of sense in my opinion. MD has a gazillion aspects whose appearance one might want to fine tune in editor mode:
- margins: horizontal and vertical (how much space between headings and the previous/next element? how much space between an image and the previous/next element? How much (if any at all) indentation for a paragraph…)
- colors for highlights, syntax highlighting, blockquote
- The borders for tables, blockquotes etc
- Fonts for everything: paragraphs, captions, headings, blockquotes, tables…
- and the list probably can go on and on
I’m not saying that these wishes are unreasonable. But how do you imagine putting them in a useable UI?
The solution, to me, is simple: People who fine-grained customisability should use an editor that offers them via themes and/or CSS. Typora comes to mind, but there are probably others.
Inflating the already huge amount of DT preferences even more is Not A Good Idea™, imo. Especially since there are already issues surfacing in the forum caused by certain preferences which the user is not aware of or forget they had set. One of them being the recent trouble someone had with images replacing the link to them because of a preference setting.

I agree. Except for the highlighter because the yellow is eye-meltingly bright and I’d love to to change that 
But I do accept that the world insists that yellow is the default highlighter colour and DT is just following convention.
I think you should check this, as mine isn’t, nor is there a border in editor mode. All that denotes quotes for me is the blue bar on the left (the original subject of this post) and >. The text format is the same as the rest of my text and there’s no padding. I’m not sure if I’ve changed a setting at some point.
