Changing filesystem

I have Devonthink on my Mac. I have it set up so that when I import a document, it stores it in its own database - if I select a file in Devonthink and go to open in finder, it opens in the database folder then some subfolder(s).

I think I would like to switch to a system where the files are stored in finder/on my Mac, and Devonthink just reads and displays them from there. Is this possible? Also, can I get devonthink to change the folder structure for my documents to reflect the organisation I have set up in Devonthink in terms of databases and folders? Thanks!

Yes, but why?
You should read and understand the In & Out > Importing & Indexing section of the built-in Help and manual before committing to this. There is also Help > Tutorials > Indexing Files to read.

One is reason why is because I would like my partner, who uses a Windows PC, to access the same files and structure. She is unable to install Devonthink.
