Changing the highlight color

I could have sworn I used to be able to change the highlight color using this little downward arrow, but these days, it does nothing… no drop-down behavior, just wherever I click, it uses the last color I selected via the Format–>Highlight Color menu.

Am I misremembering?

Tip: You can set keyboard shortcuts for each highlight color in System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts… > App Shortcuts. The shortcuts are applicable to a number of file formats, rich text and PDF included, within DT. Much handier than selecting from a dropdown menu.

You are probably clicking too fast. Click and hold to open the menu.

But I would also use shortcuts for this.

@FrankT is correct. Click and hold the button or choose Format > Highlight Color.

Playing around based on your thoughts, what I found is this – it’s not a speed thing; it’s apparently the fact that I’m using taps on a trackpad.

It takes a three-finger tap, which I hadn’t anticipated.
