The chat feature in Devon think to go is great, but for some reason, it’s telling me it can’t read the contents of a RTF file. Also, if I open a web archive, there is no chat button. Please build this feature out so that it works consistently across different document types. I don’t want to have to learn a bunch of strange nuance between the type of document I’m trying to chat with.
Also, please give the agent the ability to list and read the contents of files when I’m chatting in the context of a group if I chat with the group and ask what files are present it can’t even answer that. This thing could be a true assistant, given access to the right set of tools.
Welcome @scratchkick
You need to provide more information when reporting issues. There is no singular AI provider and model nor are they all capable in the same ways.
I don’t want to have to learn a bunch of strange nuance between the type of document I’m trying to chat with.
There’s nothing strange going on, but you cannot reasonably expect the same behavior from all AI providers and models. It’s no different than speaking to people in certain dialects in the same country.
Also, please give the agent the ability to list and read the contents of files when I’m chatting in the context of a group if I chat with the group and ask what files are present it can’t even answer that. This thing could be a true assistant, given access to the right set of tools.
Again, you have provided no information about the AI you’re using. Also, whether you have enabled the Settings > AI > Chat > Search: Database or not.
Hi, I was under the impression that I was posting an informal feature request on a forum, not reporting issues. Given the context of a forum my post feels substantial enough.
I’m using Claude sonnet, which I would expect to work with rtf files or a web archive. I would expect all of the models in your drop down to be able to handle an rtf…..
Was not aware that I needed to enable the database tools for the ai to be able to access my files, so condemning me for failing to mention that toggle is a strange choice. Nevertheless, thanks for that tip, this is great. Is there somewhere I can go for full documentation on the new 4.0 version? I haven’t come across any materials that would have made this easy to discover on my own without, you know… asking on a forum

Even when making requests, details are helpful. For example, you may be missing or misunderstanding something that leads you to think, e.g., something isn’t implemented when it is or something is possible, when it isn’t.
In the built-in Help and manual start with: Getting Started > AI Explained and AI in Practice. There is also more information in other sections, e.g., Settings > AI, Documents > AI and Your Documents, and other places throughout the documentation.
PS: All Claude models are powerful and useful, but as with any AI engine, what you ask matters. You haven’t mentioned any prompts you’ve tried.
PPS: You certainly can chat about a selected webarchive document and I’m not sure where you’re looking for a Chat button. If you’re referring to a document window, you can choose View > Customize Toolbar and add the Chat button. Also, you can invoke the Chat assistant popover at any time via the Tools > Chat command. And of course, the Chat inspector is available. Here is a webarchive queried with Haiku…

That’s a question for the models, I’d think. DTTG is just interfacing with them.
Where did you see condemnation? It appears that you’re new to the software and the forum. Perhaps reading a bit here to get a feeling for the community, the atmosphere, and the way people behave here might help you to fit in.
It’s Sunday. You request features that you claim to be missing without providing enough information for people to understand what may or may not be the issue. A DEVONtechnology support person tries to help you on a Sunday, no less. So, perhaps toning it down a bit might be in order.

Neither here nor there, as this is likely a cultural difference, but:
Again, you have provided no information about the AI you’re using. Also, whether you have enabled the Settings > AI > Chat > Search: Database or not.
To me reads as condemnation. How would I provide “whether I have enabled” a toggle that I didn’t know exists?
I posted simply seeking help on the software with as much context as I had at the time. I don’t have time to intimately familiarize myself with an entire community before posting what I thought to be a simple question.
Bluefrog has been very helpful and didn’t seem to take an issue with my critiques of their tone. I don’t think I need to tone it down, I’m simply trying to provide some feedback around how the response was received. As a new user of the software and a new member to the forum, I was a quite taken aback by the implication that my post was lacking in detail. Frankly to me it still feels like a reasonable starting point.
Thank you so much for this detailed response. I very much appreciate it. I am going to dive into these resources and see how far I can get.
Regarding chatting with a web archive, I am attempting to do so on DEVONthink Togo 4.
I believe I have everything configured correctly:
But when I open a web archive, I do not have an option to chat (I will attach screenshot in a reply, the system is only allowing me to attach one image)
Oddly, I do see the option when I open an rtf now. Previously it was not showing up.
Asking for details is not a criticism but an attempt to (better) help you. For which sometimes people need more information. In my experience, this is not a particularity of this forum.

You’re welcome
I see what you’re getting at now and indeed, it appears the Chat icon is missing. I will file an issue on it.

“You haven’t provided details” is not asking for details. It’s stating a fact. Again I believe this must be a cultural difference.
In my case, it is also meant as a reminder

I came to recognize that but definitely didn’t feel that way to begin with. Thanks again for the help. Much appreciated
