Any thoughts about how I might be able to make a chronology from docs I entered that had a date on them? (For example, in another program such as Filemaker I would just create a date field and sort on that.)


Not sure I understand exactly what you’d like to do, but maybe this will be helpful:

The View > Columns > … submenu lets you select which Date columns (Added, Created, Modified) are displayed in certain views (e.g. View > as List [Command-1 shortcut]) and the History window (Tools > History [Shift-Command-H shortcut]). Click on column titles to change the sorting or use the View > Sort > … submenu.

It’s not currently possible to add custom columns but you can put notes, etc. in the Comment field.
