Quick (I think) question — is there any way to get the Clip to DT web browser extension to copy content from a logged-in/paywalled website? As a workaround I’m using the quite nice Obsidian web clipper to achieve that, or a selection in a page, into a Markdown file, but I’m really only using Obsidian for that and it seems unnecessary to have a whole app just for web clipping. (I can also of course just use the Obsidian clipper to save to a file; and I found some older topics which suggested a Services entry but that doesn’t seem to work any more.)
- Clipping from what site?
- To what format?
- With or without clutter-free enabled?
As an example: FT.com, to either Markdown or Web Archive, and I have clutter-free ticked
Clutter-free sends the request to a different mechanism to scrape the article from the content. Try it without the clutter-free option. Do you get the clipped page?
No, just tried Web Archive without clutter-free, and I get the subscription offers page not the page I’m trying to clip
- Add a bookmark to your database.
- Log into the FT site in DEVONthink.
- Attempt the clipping e.g., via Tools > Capture.
Ah yep that works for a Web Archive (the Markdown it captures is fine for text, but doesn’t grab the graphics, I think because they are not images: Client Challenge as a gift link to see)
This is how it shows up for me…
I’m a bit puzzled as independently of that, when I click on the bookmark now in DEVONthink, it displays as if the CSS hasn’t all loaded, which is odd.
And that’s clipped as Markdown inside DEVONthink?
ah I’m being an idiot, that’s the source view (which admittedly is a bit weird IMO) but the side-by-side displays the images correctly
yes, it is
And I’ve just realised I could turn off WYSIWYG images and links for the source view and it’s all fairly straightforward. Any idea why the WYSIWYG image loading doesn’t work for those images?
