Question (just trying to understand all the things): you write “…offsite to Dropbox Backup (not Dropbox Sync!) and Arq storage.” But doesn’t Dropbox Backup mean it is storage? Isn’t it doing the same thing as Arq? If so, why Arq too? TY
Yes, Dropbox Backup is “storage”. I use Dropbox’s Backup (not their sync service) to backup the Synology NAS using the Synology app “Hyperbackup”. [I know I was vague in what I wrote, but trying not to be too complicated]. I utilise Dropbox Backup as I have available space on my account so I use it. I use Arq running on the MacBook and iMac, with three targets: Arq’s offsite, the Synology NAS, and my home directory sent to a USB that I attach a couple of times a month.
“Belt and Braces” and using the 3-2-1 approach. Every single laptop that I’ve had since laptops available in the 1980’s crashed and needed restoring. And I make mistakes and get older files and folders back, primarily from local TimeMachine backups (which are directed to the NAS).
I need and advocate 3-2-1 Backup Regime. Read about it on the Internet. I don’t try to “optimise” backups, and instead look for automated redundancy. Cheap and easy. And I test restores periodically–very important, IMHO.

Thank you. Most helpful. Look at all I’m learning! I have checked 3-2-1 at your suggestion, so thanks for that too. We are just rethinking how we do all of this, beyond just using My Passport. We need to add something off site and are deep in the weeds on that now. Thanks again for the help.
