If I have a custom metadata of type item link and it is showing on the list view is there any way of clicking on it to get to the item link.

It’s not possible in the item list but clicking on the label in the Custom inspector has a Reveal option.
However, there’s a display artifact @cgrunenberg will have to look at (denoted by the arrow) .
