Hi, I had to reinstall my system and now I am back to 0 with all things. I have my database backed up and can open it - but all the custom meta data fields are missing … how can i get that back?

Most likely just the setup of Preferences > Data is missing. Quit DEVONthink 3, then restore the file ~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 3/CustomMetaData.plist from your backups.
