Hi,
My custom metadata have gone missing this morning. I tried restoring CustomMetadata.plist from an old backup but it didn’t seem to help. I have noticed some strange behavior lately. Sometimes the Custom view in the Get Info Pane is missing and sometimes not. Have someone else noticed this?
Best regards, Björn
Did you restore this file while DEVONthink 3 was not running? Otherwise it won’t work. At least the default definitions can be also restored via the action menu in the lower left corner.
But if you’re using multiple devices and synchronizing them (including the custom metadata definitions, see options of sync location), then you might have to restore the definitions on all of them.
Yes
Should I delete the plist first?
This shouldn’t be necessary as the current file is probably empty.
No, the file is not empty. Do you want me to share it with you?
An empty property list file doesn’t have zero bytes. A screenshot of its Quick Look window would be useful, thanks.
The file is 9KB. Here is the top of the file.
Thanks for the screenshot! But nothing’s listed in Settings > Data? Which edition do you use?
That’s right. Nothing in Settings > Data. I’m using Server edition version 3.9.8.
Do you have read/write permissions for this file, see Finder’s Info panel?
Yes, I have permissions.
One script that I have been using have stopped working correctly. I have disabled the script but maybe it could have messed something up. The script was written by @ryanjamurphy (See here https://discourse.devontechnologies.com/t/stream-annotations-from-your-pdf-reading-sessions-with-devonthink/70727). There is one command (getMetaDataCmd if I remember correctly) that is not supported anymore if I understand the log.
The script shouldn’t have any impact. Does a reboot fix this? Otherwise please zip the file CustomMetaData.plist
and send the archive to cgrunenberg - at - devon-technologies.com. Thanks!
Reboot didn’t fix it. The plist is on its way to your inbox.
Thanks for your help! A reinstall fixed my broken installation.
