I have a very elementary question. I’m a historian who uses large numbers of scanned document PDFs. For the current project, I’d like to edit the date created field and replace the current information (the creation of the digital file) with the actual document’s date of drafting. What would be the quickest way to do that? I’m Control-selecting the documents and then hand entering the dates on the emerging Info pane, but it feels like there has to be a quicker way.
Or, if there’s another way to tidily list drafting dates via a different field, I’m game.
Welcome @therob
I would recommend against changing a document’s creation date. That is the date the file was actually made and has nothing to do with the relative date of the contents.
Go into DEVONthink’s Settings > Data and add a new attribute, e.g., Drafting Date. You can then edit this for a selected document in the Tools > Inspectors > Data inspector.
You can use a Date data type, if you like. But if you want to control the date’s format, make it a Single-Line Text type.
