Database name sync?

Hi!

I have changed the names of databases from DT to Go, and was expecting these changes to trickle down to DT on the Mac, but that hasn’t happened. Is there anything I can check or do to force the change? I typically see changes synced up, like new notes. Both DT on the Mac and the iPhone seem to think they’re in sync.

  • You don’t see the name changed where specifically - in DEVONthink or the Finder?

  • Also, you didn’t say what kind of sync you’re doing. I see no issue renaming a database and see the change when syncing to my Mac via Bonjour, for example.

Thanks Jim! All good questions, indeed!

  • I didn’t see the sync in DEVONthink, and I don’t see in the Finder either.
  • I am using iCould (CloudKit) for syncing. And I can see that the remotes haven’t been renamed either.

You’re welcome

On DEVONthink To Go’s databases screen, select ? > Contact Us to start a support ticket. Thanks!

Ah! Now we’re running into another issue I have, which apparently could be related. I don’t seem to have the icons down below on DEVONthink To Go, that would allow me to do that: see DTTG setting not visible/accessible? - #4 by eroesch
I have created a ticket for that one this weekend.

Generally, would you say that Bonjour is the best way to synchronise between two devices, or iCloud (CloudKit)?

Unless you actually need a remote sync option, we generally recommend using a local sync.
Noting we have documented these things in multiple places, see this recent blog post on the topic of remote and local syncs…

Also, check out our latest tutorial Understanding Sync, found in the DEVONthink’s Help > Tutorials.

Thanks! That makes total sense. I imagine Bonjour would also be much faster.
I have the feeling I should start fixing this after I get to the bottom of why my DEVONthink To Go does not show the icons at the bottom though.

If you opened a ticket this weekend, it would likely have already been answered (and likely by me). That being said, it’s a very rare condition we can’t reproduce at will. The only resolution is a delete and reinstall. Then you’d need to set up the sync location and import your databases again. A bit of a hassle but also fortuitous timing with you changing sync methods

Indeed, you did reply! Thank you very much. I think both of my issues have been resolved:

  • The missing icons on DEVONthink To Go appeared after delete and reinstall, which allowed me to troubleshoot the syncing issues.

  • Local sync via Bonjour has worked wonder, and is indeed so much faster than my previous setup!

Have a great week everyone!
